Taiwan-based PCB makers expect to see increased production value in 2Q14, says IEK -

Factories set up by Taiwan-based PCB makers in Taiwan and China recorded total production value of NT$125.3 billion (US$4.14 billion) in the first quarter of 2014, decreasing 14.1% on quarter but up 8.5% on year, according to the Industrial Economics and Knowledge Center (IEK). Going into the second quarter the value is expected to increase 6.5% sequentially to NT$133.5 billion, said IEK, adding that for all 2014 the production value will reach NT$537.8 billion, edging up 2.99% from a year earlier. Meanwhile, a number of Taiwan-based PCB makers also saw their revenues hike 10-20% on year in the first half of 2014 amid a steady global economic recovery, IEK noted. However, IEK also warned that Taiwan-based PCB makers will continue to face severe labor shortages in China in the years ahead due to rapid changes in its demographic structure. Labor shortages and investment restrictions will force Taiwan-based PCB makers to seek alternative locations for their future investment plans, according to industry sources. -
