Prototron Circuits' Technical Customer Liaison Mark Thompson will be presenting at PCB West on September 14 at the Santa Clara Convention Center.

 

Long time industry expert, writer and teacher, Thompson will speak about the design for manufacturing of printed circuit boards.

 

The course (number 27) is officially titled: DFM/DFX for prototyping PCB’s will cover: Needed files for fabrication, addition files such as “read- me’s,”  IPC net-lists, etc.; typical CAM issues; typical net-list issues; drill tolerances; rout tolerances; scoring parts; detailing sub panel drawings. There will also be a  small portion on SI will include typical imp models; the importance of material selection; differences in Dk or Df and what that means to a designer; designing at small geometries; the negotiation process. Typical net-list issues: agnd to dgnd shorts; castellated pads; erroneous broken nets; net assignments. Routing strategies: escaping tight pitch devices; tear-dropping. And use of specialty materials: Rogers and high-temp FR-4 hybrids; blind and buried vias, when to use and when not to; filled vias (epoxy, silver, copper epoxy); typical mask and ID issues; dealing with tight pitch mask constraints; clipping silkscreens, text placement, text size etc.  A series of "what not to do" slides will show typical CAM issues at the fabrication level. I will end with a brief fab process presentation.
