Chin-Poon Industrial expanding automotive PCB capacity

Chin-Poon Industrial, the largest Taiwan-based automotive PCB maker with a global market share of about 10%, has started production capacity expansion with a planned investment of NT$3.2 billion (US$106 million) over four years. Chin-Poon recorded consolidated revenues of NT$5.196 billion (US$171 million) and net profit of NT$502 million for the first quarter of 2014, both record quarterly levels. However, Chin-Poon's first-quarter gross margin of 15.06% dropped on year by 1.57pp mainly because of price competition from Taiwan-based makers Unimicron Technology, Tripod Technology, Unitech Printed Circuit Board, Global Brands Manufacture, Nan Ya PCB and APCB. According to NT Information, global automotive PCB production value in 2014 will rise 5.95% on year to US$4.54 billion. Currently, 4-layer models account for 38% of automotive PCBs, 2-level and 6-level ones each for 16%, 8-level and above ones for 5%, HDI for 8% and the remaining 17% are heat-dissipation substrates, flexible boards, low-temperature co-fired ceramic boards, IC substrates and others, NT Information indicated.
